New service for suggesting customized trips is introduced.

On October 28th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) operated the "Travel Forecast" service with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO). The travel forecasting service is a service that recommends personalized travel destinations based on big data, helping travelers make safe and satisfying trips. This service is available on the "Everywhere Korea" website and mobile application.

By using the service, On the day we go on a trip, we can leave with the information of the destination in advance like the weather forecast from the Korea Meteorological Administration. Existing travel services were centered on services where travelers choose to travel with the little amount of trip information. However, the travel forecast is a service that recommends the best travel destination to individuals based on big data when users enter their gender, age, departure date, travel time to the destination, type of companions, and purpose of visit. In particular, the travel forecast calculates the number of visitors to the travel destination compiled from the user data usage information of the telecommunication company KT, and informs them in advance about the conditions of the travel destination, such as congestion, based on the traffic situation of the day. Also, suggested travel places by individual preference are recommended by combining popularity on Social Network Service (SNS) and weather data. The travel forecast will provide information on 1,000 tourist attractions nationwide, and will add up to 1,000 more by the end of this year.

Choi Min-Hyun (Assistant Manager, Korea Tourism Organization) said, “The demand for travel is increasing due to the degradation of social distancing and the fall foliage season. MCST and KTO have been pushing the “safe trip campaign” forward since October 21st. In response, the travel forecast service will help people plan their trips more conveniently, and it will also lead to safe travel by distributing travel dates and regions.”
