People fall into exercise because of some reasons, and there are the following effects.

Ms. A's exercising days increased significantly within a week compared to last year at the same period. On weekdays, she runs or does yoga, and on weekends she enjoys hiking with her acquaintances. Furthermore, she also uploads photos or videos of herself by adding hashtags to her personal Social Network Services (SNS) account. Besides this, she recently joined the “Body Profile Challenge”* and certified it to the athletic community. Actually, there were more than 3 million hashtags for #climbingstagram and #honshanhashtags on Instagram, and more than 1 million hashtags for #body_profiles. Why did exercise become a trend in our society?

First, the tendency to record and certify exercise and achieve milestones is one of the reasons. Kim Min-Soo (19, Dept. of Business Administration) said, "I recently started to be interested in sports. I am posting pictures of me exercising in the gym and specific sports records on SNS. I think the support and complimentary comments of my friends on these posts make me exercise more." As such, people tend to feel a sense of accomplishment by authenticating their activities and showing them to others by recording them with photos or videos and uploading them on their own SNS. Seol Sun-Hye (Prof. of Dept. of Psychology, PNU) said, "In terms of reputation management, people tend to care about what is shown to others to show off their self-management. This is to show socially desirable behavior to others, such as setting goals or keeping plans well. Also, in terms of motivation psychology, people tend to share their resolutions with people around them and achieve a consensus on their words and actions. Therefore, declaring one's goals to others can be one way to achieve them more efficiently.”

The second reason is the tendency to exercise with others by forming a crew or community that works out together. As evidence, there were posts on "Every Time," a student community at Pusan National University, to gather "Oncheoncheon-Stream Trail Aerobic Exercise Members" or to organize various exercise crew such as "Jangjeon Station to Oryunsan Mountain Climbing crews," "Exercise Mate Meeting" and "Morning School Walk Meeting." Expansion of these relationships takes place not only off-line but also online. “Lafity,” a live home training company, provides real-time live class services through customized maps for individuals or small groups. With the advantage of communicating with various people and receiving individual feedback, it has secured about 1,000 subscribers within two weeks of the service's launch, and the average attendance rate per class is also more than 90%.

Based on these reasons, the daily life of movement has become a trend in our society. The first impact of this may refer to the growth of the platform market. As the exercise boom occurs, sports contents that can be copied more easily and quickly are uploaded on platforms such as YouTube under the titles of “Basic Physical Fitness Homework 15 Minutes” and “Golf Swing Better with 5 Minutes of Practice”. In addition, as more companies provide real-time live class services and online personal traning (PT) such as “Lafity”, it is easy and convenient at home, but people can also enjoy sports professionally. In fact, "Mydano," which ranks first in the online PT industry, has already surpassed 150,000 cumulative courses in 2019, gaining popularity so far. Cho Han-jin (18, Dept. of Business Administration), "I am interested in weight training and exercise every day these days. I mainly learn posture and basic skills on YouTube because of the price burden, and it is good to not only get such exercise information efficiently and quickly, but also to ease the financial burden of PT."

The second influence is that the growth and development of electronic equipment. Sports equipment companies are making efforts to develop products or services that can efficiently and comfortably measure or certify exercise records to satisfy consumers' needs. “Apple's Apple Watch” works with “Nike” and “Samsung's Galaxy Watch” collaborates with “Under Armour” to measure athletic records and even provide coaching services. In fact, according to a report by market research firm IDC, unit shipments of wearable devices have been on the rise since 2014 and are expected to reach $526.8 million by 2024. As such, the scale of wearable device markets such as activity bands and smartwatches is increasing.

Kim Moon-Kyum (Prof. of Dept. Sociology, PNU), "A movement trend is occurring due to the various trends of the generation leading the trend in our society. This is not just the activity itself, but also the growth or development of various markets, and can promote individual growth. The trend suggests that people's standard of living is shifting from achievement and competition to finding pleasant and healthy values."
