The by-election to select student president was canceled due to the lack of candidates.

The election for the student president for Pusan National University (PNU) was canceled again due to unregistered candidates. The role of student president of PNU has been a vacant seat for the last four months. Since PNU faced the unexpected situation of not having any candidates again, our university will operate with an emergency operation committee until November, when the next election, the 54th student council election, is held.

The emergency operation committee central election commission of PNU uploaded on Instagram that there were not any candidates, so they announced the unregistered candidates for the 54th student council election of PNU.

This election was held as a by-election, which was held as a by-election last November but was canceled due to a lack of candidates. However, even the by-election was canceled too, because candidates were recruited for two days, from March 10th to 11th, after the announcement on March 6th.

Previously, the election was canceled in November of last year. No one was running as a candidate for our university for the first time since the opening of the university. Therefore, following the provision of Article no. 35 of the Student Association Regulations, “A member of the Central Steering Committee shall act on behalf of both the President and Vice President when both the President and the Vice President are vacant,” the university established a non-subrogation system by designating the President of the Business School Student Council as the acting president.

The same procedure will be followed at this time, as well. When the term of the current chairperson of the emergency operation committee ends, following Article no. 35, one of the Central Steering Committee members will start the role of chairperson.

The Central Steering Committee consists of the student council president and vice president of each college or independent faculty, and the president of the club association. In the case of the emergency committee chairman this time, 28 people out of 36 agreed to take the role of the president, last December.

In order to minimize the work vacancy caused by the failure of this general election, the non-captain will discuss the direction in which a new vice-captain can be launched immediately after the by-election.
