PNU installed more CCTVs at the Busan campus for public security based on the survey.

The public security problem of Pusan National University (PNU) Busan campus, as reported by "Channel PNU" on May 4th, was regarded as a chronic problem and is now being watched to be improved by additional installations of CCTVs.

PNU recently declared that they would install 274 additional CCTVs to prevent crime on our campus and to promote a safe, educational environment by solving blind areas and constructing a control system. The Busan campus is located under the Geum-Jung mountain, so outsiders’ accesses are frequent as regular citizens visit for hiking. There were outsider’s dormitory entry cases in 2018 and 2019.

Areas, where additional CCTVs will be installed, were chosen around places where civil complaints were frequent.: the hiking trail of the Education Building  No. 2, walks near Sports Complex, areas near the Tennis Courts, the Parking Lot near the Economics and International Trade building, and the blind spots near the Junghak Hall, such as the regions of the outer wall, the symbol, and the walks. Kim Hyun-Jong (Official, General Affair) said, “We planned “campus without blind spot” for students’ security.”

A CCTV will be installed at the “Geum-Jung mountain dog hole” (73.8%), which was selected as the most vulnerable spot on campus from the “feeling level of public safety” online survey. The survey was conducted by Channel PNU, from April 15th to May 2nd, targeting 350 students from the Busan campus. Official Kim said, “I inspected the places behind buildings and the outer regions of the campus, going around the campus in person to figure out areas where public security was lacking. Although CCTVs were originally planned to be installed only in priority locations, we decided to install them in every site that needed them."

Nevertheless, PNU is passive in opening the current CCTV installation situation, so management conditions of security are still unknown. We do not know how many CCTVs are installed in the buildings at PNU. It is different from Gang-Won university and Cheong-Ju university, which announce the whole CCTV installation situation every year, or the case of public institutions, open CCTV conditions at open places to protect personal information.  Official Kim said, “Opening the current installation situation of security devices can be used in bad ways. We need to discuss this with the student council.”
