“Channel PNU” introduces five works recommended by programmers among the 15 films that the Busan International Film Festival, which always finds hidden Asian films and puts related programs in the process, is screening.
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which discovers various Asian Films, has been established as a representative film festival in Asia since 1996. Especially this year, there are more excellent works, such as introducing the special program "Discovering New Japanese Cinema." Among the 15 Asian films, programmer Nam Dong-Chul recommends five of them that anyone can keep a lingering impression on their hearts through the official YouTube channel of this year's BIFF. Recommendations can also be found on the Busan International Film Festival’s website.
■ Scent of Wind / Hadi Mohaghegh
This film is the fourth film directed by Hadi Mohaghegh, the winner of the New Currents Award at the 2015 BIFF and BIFF's opening film. It confirms the belief in people living in a suspicious world whether or not human good will remain. It shows a father with a whole-body disability and a son with a lower-body disability living together.
■ A Man / Kei Ishikawa
This film is the closing film of BIFF. The film is based on Keiichiro Hirano's novel of the same name, which won the 2018 Yomiuri Prize in Literature. It faithfully captures the desire to erase the past and questions about identity in a mysterious mood.
■ Plan 75 / Chie Hayakawa
This film is an exceptionally mentioned work of the Camera d'Or at the Festival de Cannes, dealing directly with aging society problems. The elderly population is increasing as society enters the super-aged level. So, the Japanese government implemented a policy called "Plan 75" that encourages euthanasia for the elderly aged 75 or older.
■ Holy Spider / Ali Abbasi
This film got the best actress award at this year's Festival de Cannes. A series of murders in Iran has been filmed in the name of eliminating prostitutes. This movie shows and criticizes the contradictions of the Iranian society through a murderer who claims to be justified even after being arrested and his lunatic proponets.
■Kingdom 2: Far and Away / Shinsuke Sato
Yasuhisa Hara's manga, which has been serialized since 2006, became famous as it was made into a TV animation. This also succeeded as a drama film. Two characters come out to eliminate the constant war. "Yeongjeong," who dreams of reunifying the world, and "Sin," who grew up in a lowly social position, but dreamed of becoming a general by establishing a military service, appear and follow the process of realizing their dreams.
