Channel PNU met the PNC CEO and talked about their management, based on balanced regional development and reflection of regional characteristics, on August 18th.

Due to the overcrowding in the capital area and the intensifying youth outflow in the region, a completely different aspect of social problems is deepening. According to the “Cause and Response Direction of Regional Job Polarization” report, released by the Job Committee last year, the net inflow of young people in their 20s and 30s to the capital area due to jobs was 93,000 as of 2020, more than doubled from 2016.

To alleviate this phenomenon, Channel PNU introduces excellent companies in Busan, which are firmly established among companies in the metropolitan area. Today’s headliner is PNC (Pusan Newport Company, Located in Gangseo-gu), a company that is expanding around the world taking advantage of the geographical characteristics of Busan.

The PNC was established to improve national competitiveness by expanding insufficient port facilities and to cope with the national task of developing and operating Hub-port in Northeast Asia. PNC, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, has established itself as a leading terminal in the global port market with the "best terminal in Asia" as its vision slogan.

■ A Terminal Leading to the World

PNC, which is the largest single terminal in Korea, is expanding around the world by taking advantage of the geographical advantages of Busan. It is located on a major arterial route connecting the Americas, Europe, and Asia, maximizing the efficiency of ship operation, and has a large-scale logistics complex and a smooth inland transportation system. It has also attracted attention as an optimal transshipment port that can efficiently handle customers' cargo through 2km terminal facilities that can accommodate large alliances and many feeder network services. The largest shareholder of PNC is a global terminal operator “DP World.” Currently, it operates more than 78 terminals on six continents around the world.    It is also working to establish a global network by conducting joint development projects in India, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, and to provide 'door to door' logistics services that are well underway using a wide network.

■ Leading System, First Record

PNC was influential in the global market because the influence of the advanced system was significant. It has established a Disaster Recovery center (DR) for the first time in Korea to ensure continuity of operation in the event of a natural disaster or accident. In addition, it emphasizes excellent terminal competitiveness through world-class berth productivity, facilities and equipment capable of handling super-large ships, advanced processes and operations advanced operating systems, and providing services optimized for Hub & Spoke.

PNC is breaking records one after another based on a solidly established system. Starting with the processing of 3 million *TEUs for the first time in Korea in 2011, it recorded a total of 40 million TEUs in 2018. The first annual TEU processing record of five million achieved in a single terminal in 2017 has also been maintained to this day, solidifying its position.

■ High Value on Safe Workplace and Employee Welfare

PNC values responsibility for national economy and community development. Under the slogan "Life with Neighbors," it has maintained a continuous sponsorship relationship with Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation, the Gangseo-gu General Social Welfare Center, and local universities. All employees regularly participated in volunteer activities and were designated as excellent employment companies, family-friendly certification, labor-management culture companies, and happiness sharing companies, and were recognized for their efforts to contribute to the community.

It is also striving for workers' safety and working environment. PNC emphasizes that safety and environmentalism are essential elements for the future growth and performance of businesses. In July, PNC held a meeting with the Employment and Labor Office in northern Busan and adopted a "joint declaration for the creation of a safe and healthy workplace." PNC allows employees to work from home once a week for "work-life balance" and ensures flexible commuting time. Kim Dong-won, an employee of the safety and security team, said, "Generally, there is a free atmosphere. I feel respect for employees."
