On November 9th, the Election Commission announced that two candidates were running for the 56th GSA. This is the first election with two candidates in six years, which is drawing attention.

The two candidates threw their hats into the ring to decide the 56th Pusan National University (PNU) General Students’ Association (GSA). It is the first election with two candidates in six years since the 50th GSA election in 2017.

On November 9th, the Election Commission of the GSA announced the confirmation of two Election Campaign Headquarters (ECH) formations, a result of candidate registrations from November 6th to 8th, at 7pm. The ECH, who will win the election later this month, will begin transferring over to the GSA next month.

Presidential candidate Lee Jang-Eun (Dept. of Political Science and Diplomacy, 19) and vice presidential candidate Han Seong-Ik (Dept. of Applied IT Engineering, 19) ran for the ECH No. 1, “Da-one.” Presidential candidate Lee Chang-Jun (Dept. of Geological Sciences, 22) and vice presidential candidate Seo Seung-Beom (Dept. of Atmospheric Sciences, 21) ran for the ECH No. 2, “PNew.” Before the candidacy of the GSA, presidential candidate Lee Jang-Eun of Da-one served as the 39th president of the College of Social Sciences, and Lee Chang-Jun of PNew served as the 43rd president of the College of Natural Sciences. Both candidates resigned from their positions earlier this month to restore their electoral eligibility and campaign.

The two ECHs met the criteria for recommendation signatures of more than 500 PNU members, one of the requirements for candidacy under the “PNU GSA Rules.” According to the Election Commission’s tally on October 8th, Da-one received 2,333, and PNew received 1,752 recommendation signatures, respectively.

The election campaign period is from November 14th to 27th, and the voters list will be confirmed on November 25th. A public hearing for the two candidates is scheduled for November 21st at 7pm. Election day runs from 9am to 7pm every day from November 28th to 30th.

Meanwhile, the 55th GSA, named “Shall: We” will conclude its term as of December 21st.
